About Dr. Jesse Kancir

Dr. Jesse Kancir is a Regional Medical Officer of Health with the Nova Scotia Health Authority. He has also previously been the Medical Officer of Health for the Government of the Yukon. He completed his medical residency training in both Public Health and Family Medicine at the University of British Columbia.

Involvement in medical organizations has been a core part of his professional identify, and Jesse has served in positions with several national medical organizations, including serving as the President of the Canadian Federation of Medical Student and as advisor to Canada’s Deans of Medicine through the Board of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada. He currently sits on the Health and Public Policy Committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and as part of the CanMEDS 2025 Expert Working Group for the Health Advocate Role. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jesse also served on the Post-Pandemic Expert Advisory Group for the Canadian Medical Association.

In addition to medical studies, Jesse has served as a Policy Advisor to Canada’s former Minister of Health Dr. Jane Philpott, and has completed graduate degrees in health economics at the London School of Economics and a Master’s in Public Policy at the University of Cambridge where he was a Chevening Scholar.
