SYNOPSIS

The AFMC Charles Boelen International Social Accountability Award was created in 2014. This AFMC award named after Dr. Charles Boelen, a world leader in Social Accountability aims to celebrate individuals, groups of people or organizations whose professional accomplishments reflect the principles of social accountability as defined in the Global Consensus for Social Accountability of Medical Schools.

This lecture highlights the work of the AFMC Charles Boelen International Social Accountability Award recipient and is an opportunity for attendees to engage in a meaningful conversation about social accountability.

The Lecture will discuss the social mission of medical schools and how that can impact graduates’ practice. The discussion will be by looking at a case study of a medical school.

At the end of this session, participants will:

  1. Discuss the definition of social mission of medical school;
  2. Illustrate the curriculum strategies that translate social mission of medical schools;
  3. Showcase the perception of graduates on training considering social mission.
