SYNOPSIS

Learning the foundational sciences forms an important basis of the training programs for many healthcare providers, and health sciences educators play an essential role in teaching them. However, the world around us is more than ever changing rapidly and new developments in didactical and technological areas occur. Science educators are expected to take on additional teaching roles for which they are often not adequately prepared, and they face issues of educator and student diversity, equity, and inclusion, scholarly expectations in career development, and quickly advancing technologies taking over traditional teaching methods.

In this symposium, we will discuss several of these challenges like the increasing role of scholarship and publications, different pathways for science educators to medical education and leadership, and the uprise of educational technologies taking over content expert role of educators. In the general discussion we will seek for insights from the audience.
